5.5.2.2 Magnetocaloric Ferro
fl
uids in Thermal Management
As could be seen in the previous subsection, thermal management can be suc-
cessfully provided by application of magnetocaloric
uids. Since the heat source in
this case is anyway available, such a system will be self-operating, similar to the
case of heat pipes. Considering the
fl
ndings of researchers we may emphasize that
the application of magnetocaloric
uids for thermal management regards rather
small devices (e.g. applications in electronics) with a high power density.

5.5.2.3 Magnetocaloric Ferro
fl
uids in Medicine
Magnetocaloric
uids may be successfully applied in cancer treatment, where they
would act as heat pumps (see Sect. 5.4 ). Compared to other types of magnetic
induction treatment, this type of treatment certainly represents an advantage
because of the magnetocaloric effect.
