attributes, to assess data distributions, to visually compare sub-populations, and
to isolate and extract sub-populations. As you look back, many of the tasks
introduced in Chapter 1 under the initial exploration and dataset preparation
steps, may be completed using the parallel plot. In later examples you will use
the parallel plot for:
outlier detection and removal
more sophisticated dataset preparation tasks
comparing clusters generated by a cluster analysis.
The table viewer
The table viewer is not an actual visualization, but a simple tabular layout of
dataset values. It is included in VisMiner as a supplement to the other
visualizations to be deployed when the user needs to see actual values.
Drag the Iris dataset up to a display.
Select “Table View”.
The dataset opens in a table containing all values in the dataset (Figure 2.28).
Its features are simple. Click on a column (attribute) heading to sort the
observations by that attribute. Click again to reverse the sort sequence.
Additional features will be introduced in later examples as the table data is
synchronized with other viewers.
