Another area that collects a lot of sediment from local creeks is the
South Bay below the Dumbarton Bridge. This bodes well for the area's am-
bitious salt pond restoration project. Project planners asked Schoellhamer
to budget sediment requirements for a variety of restoration designs. After
examining the elevations of 65 different ponds, he found that some were
much lower than others. In a design converting all of the ponds to tidal
marsh, he projected that the vast majority of sediment would be needed to
