What follows is a brief introduction to the main elements of the interface. We cover each area in greater detail
throughout the topic.
The Event Library
Any media that you import into Final Cut Pro is placed inside a container known as an Event, which lives on a
specific hard drive. The Event Library lists all the Events available on your system and is arranged by the drives
that the Events reside on. Drives connected to your Mac are represented by icons, and clicking the disclosure
triangle reveals the Events and Collections that they contain (see Figure 2.6). If no external drives are attached
to the computer, all Events appear inside the current user's Home directory, which is represented by the familiar
home icon.

An Event folder also may contain subfolders called Collections, which represent a more specific level of or-
ganization for your Event media. (For more on Collections, see Chapter 4.) Selecting an Event or Collection
displays its contents in the Event Browser, making the media available for use in any Project. Once an Event or
