Creating chapter markers for DVD and Blu-ray
Compressor's Preview window includes a Timeline with a playhead that allows you to scrub through a job that
is selected in the Batch window. A new job can be chosen from the Batch Item pop-up menu at the top of the
Preview window. In and Out points can be marked in the Preview window's Timeline, enabling you to encode a
smaller section of the source media file, something that can't be done when exporting directly from Final Cut
Pro. In and Out points are added using the I and O keys in the usual way.
As we've seen, Final Cut Pro can create a DVD or Blu-ray disc directly from your project Timeline, but unfor-
tunately it doesn't give you the ability to add specific chapter markers from within the application. To add
chapter markers to your disc, you need to create them in Compressor. These, too, are added in the Preview win-
dow's Timeline by choosing Add Marker from the Marker pop-up menu or by pressing M to add a marker at the
playhead position (see Figure 16.12).
