In-Depth Information
To export an audio file, follow the same procedure, but choose Audio Only from the Export drop-down menu.
The Video Codec settings dim and the Audio File Format settings become available, allowing you to choose an
audio format from the drop-down menu. AIFF or WAV are your best options, because both these formats are
uncompressed, but you can choose other audio formats such as AAC, AC3, CAF, and even MP3 as well. Click
the Next button to name your file and choose a location to store your audio. Click Save to complete the process.
You also can export your media by the roles that have been assigned to your clips (for more on roles, see
Chapter 4). For example, you could use this to easily export a separate music and effects track, which can be
used to dub a foreign language version of your movie when it's distributed to different markets. There are four
options available from the Export drop-down menu:
Roles As Multitrack QuickTime Movie embeds the individual audio roles inside a single QuickTime
movie.
Roles As Separate Files creates individual video and audio files from each role, such as Dialogue, Music,
Titles, and so on.
Video Roles Only As Separate Files exports the video roles in your Project as individual movie files.
Audio Roles Only As Separate Files exports the audio roles in your Project as individual audio files.
Selecting any of these four options from the Export drop-down menu reveals a Roles button. Clicking this but-
ton presents each role as a drop-down menu that allows you to choose the roles or subroles you want to export
(see Figure 16.8). You can add additional roles to export by clicking the Add Video File or Add Audio File but-
tons and choosing a new role from the drop-down menu. To remove a role from the export process, click the
minus button next to the role. Click the Next button to choose a location to store your files and click Save. Once
completed, Final Cut Pro labels each individual file with a suffix containing the role name so that the files can
easily be identified on your computer.
