In-Depth Information
We've provided these “ADR” recordings on the DVD, and in the following section you'll be using these to re-
place some of the problematic audio that we encountered on this project.
1. In the Project Library, double-click the Building the Climax Project to open it in the Timeline.
2. Press +Shift+2 to open the Timeline Index and type Scene 17 Slate 30 Take 1 into the search field.
Select this in the search results to reveal it in the Timeline and play back the clip. As you can hear, the dia-
logue is barely audible during the clip, but because it was the only take that we had of that particular shot,
we had no choice but to use it.
3. In the Event Library, click the Collection Jenny Seagrove (Joyce) to display its contents in the Event
Browser. This collection contains all the additional dialogue that actress Jenny Seagrove recorded for us
after performing the scene. The line of dialogue that we need for the clip is “There he is. With his football.”
This can be found on the clips titled “He was my son: football” in the Event Browser. There are 3 different
line readings to choose from, but we need to choose the audio clip that best matches the video in the clip.
We've found the best match to be “He was my son: football-1.”
4. Press +2 to make the Timeline active and position the playhead just before Joyce says the line “There
he is”. This should be at 1 minute, 6 seconds, and 14 frames in the Building the Climax project Timeline (or
1 second and 11 frames into Scene 17 Slate 30 Take 1). To make this easier to locate, open the Clip Appear-
ance panel by clicking the Switch button at the bottom of the Timeline window and select the first button to
display audio waveforms only (see Figure 13.1). You also can increase the Clip Height to make the wave-
forms easier to see.

5. Press +1 to make the Event Browser active and select “He was my son: football-1.” Mark an In point at
2 seconds and 59 frames into the clip (just before Joyce says “There he is”) and an Out point at 4 seconds.
Press Q to connect this selection to the Primary Storyline.
6. Go back to the Timeline and position the playhead just before Joyce says the line “With his football” at 1
minute, 8 seconds, and 3 frames in the Timeline (or 3 second into Scene 17 Slate 30 Take 1).
7. Select “He was my son: football-1” in the Event Browser and mark an In point at 4 seconds and 51
frames into the audio clip. Press Q to connect this selection to the Primary Storyline (see Figure 13.2).
8. Select Scene 17 Slate 30 Take 1 in the Timeline and open the Inspector's Audio pane. Disable the clip's
audio by un-checking the Channel Configuration check box. Play back the section to hear the result. If the
