5. When Joyce says, “There he is, with his football” it would be appropriate to cut to the photo she's refer-
ring to next. Select Scene 17 Slate 32 Take 1 in the Event Browser, and press E to append the clip to the
Primary Storyline. The rest of the dialogue exchange between Katie and Joyce occurs in a single two-shot.
Select Scene 17 Slate 31 Take 2 in the Event Browser, and mark an In point and an Out point between 07:19
and 33:20. Press E to append the clip to the Timeline. Play back the section, and you'll notice that we
haven't included Katie's question “What happened to him?” Let's run this line below the shot of Jason's
photo. Select Scene 17 Slate 31 Take 2 in the Timeline and expand the clip's audio. Select the clip's audio
In point and drag it to the left for 3 seconds until it snaps to the front of Scene 17 Slate 32 Take 1 (see Fig-
ure 12.19).

6. Select and play Scene 17 Slate 34 Take 2 in the Event Browser. This insert shot of Katie holding Joyce's
hand can be used to further reinforce Katie's change of attitude and show that she's also connecting with
Joyce as well as Jason. Let's place it over Joyce's line “That was a long time ago.” Position the playhead at
1 minute, 24 seconds, and 10 frames in the Timeline, and press Q to connect Scene 17 Slate 34 Take 2 to the
