9. Select and play Scene 7 Slate 17 Take 3 (second favorite) in the Event Browser. This is a different section
of Joyce's medium close-up where she makes her offer to play with Katie. There's a touching element of ex-
pectancy in the actress's performance in this clip, so it would be good to cut to this shot at this moment in
the scene. Press +2 to select the Timeline. Click the Dashboard so that it turns blue, and enter 25.23 to
place the playhead at 25 seconds and 23 frames on the Timeline. Press W to insert the second instance of
Scene 7 Slate 17 Take 3 in the Primary Storyline.
10. Select Scene 7 Slate 16 Take 2 (second favorite) in the Event Browser and play the clip. This is another
section from Katie's medium close-up that shows her taking Kitty from Joyce and shrugging at Joyce's
question “. . . are you sure you're not going to be lonely?” We can use this as a cutaway by adding the shot
to the Primary Storyline as a Connected clip. Place the playhead at 23 seconds and 23 frames on the
Timeline and select Video Only from the Toolbar's Source Media pop-up menu so as to exclude the clip's
audio when we add it to the edited sequence (see Figure 10.12).

Press Q to connect the second instance of Scene 7 Slate 16 Take 2 to the Primary Storyline. Press Shift+1 to
return the Source Media back to All and play back the section to see the result. The Connected clip could do
with some trimming because it's a little long and covers most of Joyce's dialogue. Select the end of the
Connected clip and drag it to the left by 6 seconds so that it ends just before Joyce says “. . . I can always do
things with you if you like” (see Figure 10.13).
