Figure 8.27 Enhancements in the Inspector.
Once a correction has been applied to a clip, you can tweak it further using parameters in the Inspector:
• Loudness behaves just like an audio compressor, with the Amount slider controlling how much compres-
sion is applied (and affecting the overall loudness of the audio).
• The Uniformity slider adjusts the dynamic range between the quietest and loudest parts of the sound, with
the highest percentage giving the least dynamic range.
• Background Noise Removal detects consistent background sounds such as traffic noise or crowds and at-
tempts to remove them; how much of this is removed is controlled with the Amount slider.
• Hum Removal fixes interference from electrical sources; you can choose between 50 Hz and 60 Hz (for
Europe or North America).
Audio analysis also can be performed directly from the Inspector itself. Let's run through this using an example
from the Pranks rushes:
1. Double-click the Craft of the Cut disc image to mount it and launch Final Cut Pro.
2. Select the Cutting Dialogue-1 Collection in the Event Library and select Scene 7 Slate 15 Take 4 in the
Event Browser.
3. Play Scene 7 Slate 15 Take 4 and carefully listen to the audio. Background noise can be heard from the
camera.
4. Open the Inspector's Audio pane and click Show to reveal the Audio Enhancements section (see Figure
8.28)
