Each clip that contains audio is assigned a channel configuration when it's imported into Final Cut Pro; this can
be viewed in the Inspector's Audio pane under the Channel Configuration section. Chapter 6 demonstrated how
to use this section to disable a clip's audio, but you also can change a clip's channel configuration here by se-
lecting a new one from the pop-up menu (see Figure 8.4). This allows you to break a Stereo file into two Dual
Mono clips or separate a Surround 5.1 file into six individual Mono clips (see Figure 8.5). After you've changed
a clip's channel configuration in the Inspector, you can use Break Apart Clip Items to separate it into individual
clips in the Timeline (see Figure 8.6). If a channel has been disabled in the Inspector (by unchecking its check
box), the separated clip in the Timeline also will be disabled and appear grayed out.
