Compound clips provide an effective way to work with groups of clips in the Timeline, but you need to watch
out for any overlapping clips when creating Compound clips for your Project because these can inadvertently
create unwanted black segments in your edited sequence. Let's use the Bump in the Night sequence to demon-
strate this.
1. Open the Bump in the Night Project in the Timeline.
2. -click on Scene 8 Slate 55 Take 2 (the sixth clip in the Timeline) and Jason Giggles-01 to select them
(see Figure 7.14).

3. Press Option+G to create a new Compound clip and press Shift+? (question mark) to play it back. The
Compound clip has been extended, and a large portion of it plays as black in the Viewer.
Let's look at what happened here so that you can avoid this in the future. Figure 7.14 shows that the Jason
Giggles-01 clip overlaps the next section. Because of this, Final Cut Pro created a gap clip above the overlap-
ping portion when the Compound clip was created. You can clearly see this if you open the Compound clip in
