In-Depth Information
Markers added to clips on a Timeline are automatically placed on the Primary Storyline. To place a marker on a
Connected clip or Secondary Storyline, you need to select these in the Timeline window before adding the
marker. You can use markers to navigate the playhead along the Timeline by using the marker positions on an
edited sequence.
To move the playhead to the next marker in the Timeline, choose Mark Next Marker or press Control+' (apo-
strophe).
To move the playhead to the previous marker in the Timeline, choose Mark Previous Marker or press Con-
trol+; (semicolon).
The playhead also can be moved to a marker's position by clicking on a marker in the Timeline or by selecting a
marker from the Tag list in the Timeline Index.
You can copy, cut, and paste markers on a Timeline just like regular text in a word processor by Control-click-
ing on a marker and choosing either Copy or Cut from the shortcut menu. You can then paste the marker at the
skimmer's position by choosing Edit Paste or pressing +V.
To delete a marker, select the marker and choose Mark Markers Delete Marker, open the marker's dialog box
and click the Delete button, or Control-click on the marker and choose Delete Marker. You also can select the
marker and press Control+M.
To delete all the markers in a group of selected clips, select the clips that contain the markers you want to delete
and choose Mark Markers Delete Markers in Selection or press Control+Shift+M.
Markers can be turned into to-do items that act as reminders for actions that you need to implement at a future
time. This could be anything from a reminder to fix problematic audio to a prompt to add a specific filter to a
clip. Turning a marker into a to-do item turns it from blue to red, indicating that the item has yet to be com-
pleted. Checking off an item as completed turns the marker's icon to green. To-do items really come into their
own when used with the Timeline Index (see Figure 5.22). Here you can choose to list just the incomplete items
and jump directly to the item in the Timeline when you want to carry out the action specified in the to-do.
Selecting the red check box next to the to-do item marks the item as complete and removes it from the incom-
plete list in the Timeline Index.
To turn a marker into a to-do item, open a blue marker's dialog box and click the Make To Do Item button or
Control-click a blue marker and choose To Do.
To mark a to-do item as completed, open a red marker's dialog box and select the Completed check box,
Control-click a red marker and choose Completed, or select the red marker's check box in the Timeline Index.
