shops, bars, and houses and how a decent design would improve the
whole area.
Landscape architects create places for people to live, work, and play and
places for plants and animals to thrive. With this in mind, it is important to put
the user first and provide the best possible design to maximize the well-being
of visitors coming to the park.
Stage 2: Desktop Study
Goal : To organize ideas and form design principals.
Input : Desktop study including web- and topic-based research.
Tools : Pen, paper, and research material.
Following on from Stage 1, I took the initial ideas and concepts and molded
them into a clearer plan with more detailed sketches, still working with pen
and paper but focusing more on the practical workings of the site. These
include subjects such as accessibility, circulation, facilities, and features in and
around the potential design.
Stage 2 helped me form the main foundation of the design to translate
clear drawings and plans from paper into digital 3D format with the help of
SketchUp.
Stage 3: Pre-SketchUp Model Preparation
Goal : To prepare information for model building.
Input : Digital map information.
Tools : Microsoft Live Earth and Digimap.
This stage involved sourcing of available map and photographical data
to make my model as realistic as possible and to make sure it is at the
correct scale. During the time I designed Lescar Park, I had access to Digimap,
which is a database of all UK maps at all scales in the digital format. This
