Figure 13-12. The main FileZilla window without any configuration
You'll notice it's pretty empty and separated into six panes. The top pane shows the
FTP commands that FileZilla is sending to the server. The left-hand panes show files on
your computer (both in tree format and listing the files in the directory you're looking in),
and the right-hand panes will show files on your server (in the same arrangement, after
we've connected). The bottom shows files that we're currently transferring from one side
to the other (either from our computer to the server, or vice versa).
Start by entering your FTP host name in the Host box at the top, your FTP username,
and your FTP password. If your host supports SFTP, the more secure way to go, you'll
want to enter the port number for SFTP, which is typically “22” inside the Port box. If,
however, you can only use regular FTP, you'll use the FTP Port number, typically “21.”
(Note: If your host changes these values, which is very rare for a host to do, you should
be able to find them in its FAQ section or Knowledge Base.) After you have all of your
information entered, press “Quickconnect” to connect to the server (Figure 13-13).
