320 and Up
Another Creative Commons licensed framework, 320 and Up
( http://stuffandnonsense.co.uk/projects/320andup/) was created from the get-go
with smaller viewing portals in mind. As the 320 and Up website says, this framework is
"tiny screen first." Created by Andy Clarke and Keith Clark and based off Less
Framework 4, this collection of CSS styles comes with preset typography styles and a
few extra JavaScript goodies to resize images and improve the all around performance
of the site in older browsers. As you can see in Figures 8-8, 8-9, and 8-10, it scales
nicely to the different common orientations and screens in use today on Android
devices.
320 and Up is a good choice when you want to avoid any overlap between your desktop
and mobile versions of an app, and when responsiveness is your primary goal. 320 and
Up also includes with more customizations than Less Framework 4, such as built-in
JavaScript libraries for resizing photos, and applying appropriately optimized CSS. If the
customization of Less Framework 4 appears daunting to you, you may want to start with
320 and Up and see if you really need to dig any deeper!
