standards in 2011 called for moving beyond the standard
1,024-bit key (310 digits) to a 2,048-bit key (620 digits) in
order to be confident of security through approximately
2030. In other words, the security of two-key cryptogra-
phy depends on well-defined mathematical questions in
a way that single-key cryptography generally does not;
conversely, it equates cryptanalysis with mathematical
research in an atypical way.
