solution.stabilized.with.SDS.against. S. aureus .(KCTC.1928).(a).and. E. coli .(KCTC.1041).(b)..All.concentrations.of.
Pt-NPs.and.Ag-NPs.are.10.µl.(5.4.ppm)..(Reproduced.with.permission.from.Cho,.K.H.,.et.al.,. Electrochem. Acta ,.

size.of.the.particles,.the.amount.of.Ag-NPs.within.the.hydrogel,.and.amount.of.monomer.
acid. in. the. hydrogel-silver. nanocomposites.. Figure  18.3. shows. the. formation. of. Ag-NPs.

When.Petica.and.co-workers 13 .investigated.the.antibacterial.and.antifungal.properties.of.
colloidal.silver.solutions.(CSSs),.they.discovered.that.CSSs.showed.good.activities.against.
Staphylococcus aureus .(ATCC).(Gram-positive.cocci),. Pseudomonas aeruginosa .(ATTC),. E. coli .
(ATCC),.and Acinetobacter spp..(Gram-negative.coccobacillus)..In.another,.similar.investi-
gation.by.Llić.and.co-workers, 14 .it.was.found.that.cotton.fabric.loaded.with.silver.nano-
particles. from. 10. and. 50. ppm. colloids. exhibited. excellent. antimicrobial. activity. against.
Gram-negative.bacterium. E. coli ,.Gram-positive.bacterium S. aureus ,.and.fungus. C. albicans. .
Thus,.we.can.assume.that.silver.nanoparticles.exhibited.excellent.antibacterial.and.anti-
fungal.activities.
Rai. and. co-workers, 15 . in. an. article. on. Ag-NPs. as. a. new. generation. of. antimicrobi-
als,. described. the. action. mechanism. of. silver,. silver. ion-AgNO 3 ,. silver. zeolite,. and.
Ag-NPs..They.also.went.on.to.describe.the.effect.of.size.and.shape.on.the.antimicrobial.
activity. of. nanoparticles,. as. well. as. the. applications. of. silver. nanoparticles.. Sharma.
and. co-workers 16 . reported. in. their. review. that. Ag-NPs. prepared. by. green. synthesis.
interact.with.the.cell.membrane.of.bacteria..Ag.NPs.incorporated.with.surfactants.and.
polymers. had. advantages. in. antibacterial. activities. against. Gram-positive. and. Gram-
negative.bacteria.
