aligned.polymer.ibers.showed.that.cellular.alignment.enhances.cardiomyocyte.matura-
tion;. cells. grown. on. aligned. electrospun. polyurethanes. had. signiicantly. lower. steady-
state.levels.of.atrial.natriuretic.peptide.(ANP).and,.as.a.result,.released.less.ANP.over.time.
than.cardiomyocytes.on.random.ibers.(Rockwood.et.al.,.2008).
In. conclusion,. nanoibers. are. novel. scaffold. materials. for. tissue. engineering,. and. the.
accumulating.data.show.them.to.be.superior.to.most.other.designs.due.to.the.versatility.
of. the. approach.. They. are. especially. suited. to. the. highly. organized. nature. of. biological.
tissues..With.developments.in.the.processing.systems,.they.will.become.the.major.scaffold.
type.
