devices shown in the latter two figures were designed and fabricated from thick (2
mm) ionic polymer-metal nanocomposites and were subsequently 24-K gold plated.
These devices performed quite remarkably and showed that enough compression force
can be generated with IPMNCs of reasonable thickness for heart compression appli-
cations, as will be discussed next.
