• If you don't have a scanner, measure the box with a ruler and then make a drawing
based on those measurements.
• Import your image into your 3D program.
• Trace the outline of the object to make a large multi-sided polygon (Fig.
2.28
).
• Draw the fold and cut lines into the object by cutting it into smaller sections. For
extra diffi culty, extrude the box to give it a little extra depth (Fig.
2.29
).
• Project the UVs on the box using a planar projection tool. In this case, you want
it oriented facing up. Some programs are Z-up, some are Y-up, so be sure to
check which type you are using before projecting.
• Create a material, or shader, by going to your materials editor. Use the scanned
image of your fl at carton for the color channel of the shader.
