Instructions :
Find a subject.

The subject should be no larger than a square meter and not smaller than
30 cm square.

Bricks, stones, pavers, and other relatively fl at architectural objects make
good subjects

Photograph the subject in neutral lighting if possible
-
Use the highest quality settings possible on your camera
-
Do your best to photograph the subject from a perpendicular angle
-
Use a tripod if you have one
Open the reference photo in an image-editing program.

Correct any perspective distortion in the image
-
Remove cast shadows
-
Enhance saturation
-
Correct any other problems you fi nd based on material covered in Sect. 11.5.3

Change its size to 512 × 512 pixels
• Put the reference photo on a layer and lock it. Then create a new layer for each
of the following maps:

Diffuse
-
Specular
-
Bump
Use the reference map to create a separate square map for each of the layers you
have made.
In a 3D program, make a shader and attach all three texture maps to it
Attach the shader to a square polygon
Put lights in your scene
Render the square
Adjust the maps as necessary to enhance their fi delity to the original subject
Criteria : The fi nal maps should be a good likeness of the original subject. They
should be free from photo artifacts.
Rendering 1: Hide the Illusion
Project type : Homework and workshop
Time limit : Seven class periods
Goal : Make an aesthetically appealing render of the alignment illusion fi le that
disguises the illusion.
Supplies/materials required :
Textured Alignment Illusion project (students allowed to share model fi les.)
