SOON YOUR CHICKS WILL BE MORE THAN A HANDFUL. Already they
aren't babies anymore so much as restless and rowdy teenagers, but when they are
full grown, catching one and holding on to her will be a trick you'll have to master.
When you pick a chicken up and hold her, it's important to secure both wings.
Otherwise, she'll flap vigorously and wrestle herself free. The more often you handle
your chickens, the more likely they'll be to stand still and allow it. To avoid panic,
cradle the bird in the crook of your arm, pressing one wing against your body while
holding the other wing securely against the chicken. Some folks prefer to support the
chicken's feet (and some just like to feel the talons around their fingers), but this isn't
necessary.
