The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy is a collection of hob-
byists and breeders of heritage livestock and poultry. These are small-farm soldiers toil-
ing on the front lines to breed and keep animals suited for traditional fare and nonconven-
tional farms. Which is to say animals not meant to live in feedlots but to live and produce
on smaller farms. Here you can find what breeds of chickens need saving and perhaps
ofer to add a few to your flock. As someone who's raised some members of the conserva-
tion list, I can personally state that this organization's resources and membership are very
helpful.

sociation is a national organization for the exhibition and breeding of countless types of
chickens. If you want to hang with the big kids, this is the place to be. An APA poultry
show is an amazing way to spend a Saturday. You'll get to see some of the best speci-
mens from hundreds of breeds and varieties, swap business cards, and maybe even walk
out with a purchased pullet tucked under your coat.
