ROOSTER PROS
Roosters crow. Yes, it's all day, but if you're anything like me, you love that sound and
it feels like your own rural anthem. They're also great protectors of hens and allow a
free-range flock to relax, knowing their man has got their backs. A rural flock of laying
hens is truly happier with a cock in their midst and will usually follow him instead of
scattering around your lawn. They also make adding to your flock a lot easier since, of
course, having fertile eggs means the possibility of chicks. Finally, roosters are iconic in
their beauty; just having one perched on a fence post here at the farm makes me want to
stick a hayseed in my mouth and buy a pair of overalls.
