The success of our suite of asset-tracking applications was primarily due to a
core set of development criteria, specifically,
programmatic automation wherever possible;
rapid plug-and-play tool development accommodated by using Python;
relevant content-specific display of meaningful information;
ecient search and retrieval of assets and asset-specific metadata;
simple interfaces built on top of powerful, flexible and modular underlying
tools.
In conclusion, our investigation and subsequent automation of the majority of
our asset-tracking system turned out to be a significant return on investment at
Volition, both in terms of development time saved and asset iteration and opti-
mization time made available as a result. By building a custom modular workflow
of interconnected automated systems designed to provide usable information de-
rived from tracking all game assets, we were able to place more finite control in the
hands of every member of our development team and thereby improve the technical
quality of our product.
