In-Depth Information
Using these options, you can create a convenient way to edit properties in the -Properties
Bin.
Adjusting properties, knobs, and sliders
You will now use Grade1's properties to change the color of the doll image to better fit
that ofthebackgroundimage. Todothis, youneedtounderstand howthese properties are
controlled.
You manipulate properties using interface elements called knobs . These can be represen-
ted as sliders, input fields, drop-down menus, and so on. Whatever they actually are, they
are called knobs.
When changing a slider, for example, you are changing the knob (the property's value).
A good thing about Nuke is that all values are consistent. All transformation and filtering
values are in pixels, and all color values are in a range of 0 for black to 1 for white.
Look at the Gamma property under Grade1's Properties panel in the Properties Bin. A
color slider is one of the most complex slider knobs you can find in Nuke, so it's a good
slider to learn ( FIGURE 2.28 ) .

Here are some ways to manipulate properties:
• Click in the Input field and type in a new number.
• Place the cursor in the Input field and use the up and down arrows to nudge digits
up and down. The magnitude of change depends on the initial position of your
cursor. For example, to adjust the initial value of 20.51 by 1s, insert your cursor to
the left of the 0.
• Hold down Alt/Option and drag up and down with the left mouse button. In the
same way as using the arrow keys, the magnitude depends on where in the Input
field the cursor was when you clicked.
• Use the scroll wheel on your mouse if you have one.
• Use the slider (how original!).
