It's clear what needs to be done in this composite. In most of the frame, there is
no overlap between the characters, and so this can be solved with a simple split
screen—a non-animating shape that defines what part of the final image to take
from which Read node. However, the foreground actor's head does go on top of
thebackgroundactor,andthiswillneedtogetproperlyextracted witharoto.Ob-
viously this calls for the prowess of RotoPaint!
8. Close Framecycler or press Stop.
9. Make sure no node is selected and press the P key to create a RotoPaint node.
10. Make sure you're on the last frame (frame 51) of the comp.
11. Choose the Bézier tool from the toolbox and draw a spline that includes the area
on the left—except for the person standing.
You should have something that looks like FIGURE 6.41 .
