Abomasum: The last of the four compartments in a goat's digestive system, where
true digestion occurs
ADGA: American Dairy Goat Association
Advanced registry: A doe documented to have given a set amount of milk over
the course of a year (high-yield)
Alcilli: Another name for alveoli
Alveoli: Tiny sack-like structures containing cells that secrete milk in a mammary
gland
American: A doe that is seven-eighths pure of one breed or a buck that is fifteen-
sixteenths pure
Anthelmintics: Medications that eliminate worms
Artificial insemination (AI): The impregnation of a doe using frozen sperm from a
donor buck
Blind teat: A nonfunctional teat
Broken-mouthed: A term for a goat missing some of its front incisors
Buck: A male goat
Buckling: An uncastrated male kid
Burdizzo ® : A tool used to neuter young bucks CAE: Caprine arthritic encephalitis,
a viral rheumatic joint inflammation passed from mother to kid
Castrate: To render a buck sterile
Chamois: A deep, reddish-brown color found in the Oberhasli breed
