The Strewn Winery Cooking School in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
kitchen, then move to the attached dining
room to savor their creations. The class-
room and dining room both have large
windows to let in floods of sunlight and
wide views of the surrounding green vine-
yards—you'll never forget you're in the
heart of wine country.
One-day classes are held most Satur-
days; several of these are designated for
“couples,” which doesn't necessarily mean
romantic partners (it's a fun mother-
daughter activity or a great way for col-
lege roommates to reconnect). Once a
month, the school operates a 2-day culinary
weekend, which includes visits to local
farmers and a wine tasting at Strewn.
Then, starting in late May, monthly 5-day
cooking workshops include the hands-on
cooking classes supplemented by visits to
food markets and artisanal food produc-
ers, wine tastings, breakfasts and lunches,
and a Wednesday-night dinner at a top
local restaurant (these are also bundled
into a package with accommodations at
the Harbour House Hotel; see below).
Given that the winery schedules its own
tours and tastings too, there's something
happening here just about all the time. For
a wine lover who's eager to cook, or a
cook who is curious about wine, it's a
heavenly match.
