In-Depth Information
F I G U R E 11.11 A notch will remove an exact shape from the
selected member.
TIP In cases where a pure notch creates too detailed a cut, it's advis-
able to do a traditional extruding cut or create a custom coping profile.
The Lengthen/Shorten Tool
The length of a placed frame member is based on the length of the selected edge
or the distance between the selected points. The Trim/Extend tool is useful if you
have a face to trim or to which to extend. This tool is for changing the length of a
member in open space or when you don't want to use a face on another member
without changing the skeleton itself.
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open the c11-08.iam file from the Assemblies\Chapter11 folder.
2. Switch the Ribbon to the Design tab, and start the Lengthen/Shorten
tool from the Frame panel.
The tool can add length to one end or equally on each end of the
selected member.
3. In the Lengthen - Shorten Frame Member dialog box, set the exten-
sion length to 4.5 in, and leave the Extension Type set to Lengthen
- Shorten Frame Member At One End.
4. For a single direction, the selection is click-sensitive. You need to
click the end that will change. Click the end of the yellow piece that is
in the open (Figure 11.12), and click OK.
If you need to add length to an end that has an existing end treatment, you
will need to delete the end treatment first or select the Delete Existing End
Treatment(s) option.
