Measuring the distance between the new cut and the edge of the face on which
it ends shows that the distance includes the transition across the two bends.
Exploring an Advanced Open Profile Tool
The Contour Flange tool uses an open profile to generate a complex shape nor-
mal to the sketch. You can use the Contour Roll tool to revolve a profile around
an axis to develop a sheet metal part.
1. Verify that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then open
c10-07.ipt from the Parts/Chapter​10 folder.
2. Start the Contour Roll tool from the Create panel of the Sheet Metal tab.
The Contour Roll tool detects the single sketch and selects it, but
you still need to select an axis.
3. Select the centerline to which the dimension of 200 is attached.
4. When the preview appears, change Rolled Angle to 30 deg, as shown
in Figure 10.18, and click OK to generate the feature.

The Contour Roll tool is interesting, and it can create components that would
be difficult to calculate using other tools.
Building Transitions in Sheet Metal
There are many uses for sheet metal components that change from one shape
to another. Defining these shapes for manufacturing has been a longtime chal-
lenge for designers.
