FIGURE 9.10 Adding a rule fillet between a feature and the part
This applies the second rule to any edge that is not tangent with
another face or already slated to be affected by another rule.
6. Click OK to place the fillets based on these rules.
Expanding the Grill
dialog box reveals a
Flow Area calcula-
tion. This refers to
the opening created
by the grill, because
grills are commonly
used for ventilation.
TIP A rule fillet placed between features or between a feature and the
body does not cause an error message if the conditions don't allow it to gen-
erate. Instead, it lies dormant until the conditions are restored and it can
generate the feature again.
Adding a Grill
A grill is a feature that creates an opening in a part. It frequently has ribs across
the opening. It can also include areas of solid obstruction called islands .
1. Verify that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then open
c09-08.ipt from the Parts\Chapter9 folder.
2. In the Design window, orbit the part so you can clearly see the sketch
that is visible.
3. In the Plastic Part panel of the 3D Model tab, start the Grill tool.
The Grill dialog box has five tabs with options for the sketch geom-
etry you want to use for that subfeature.
4. The first tab sets the boundary. To define the boundary, click the circle
in the sketch.
