In-Depth Information
FIGURE 9.8 A boss can automatically add a fillet at the base
for the new boss.
TIP You can add stiffening ribs as part of the feature. You can also
allow the hole to pass all the way through the component or be created only
to a specified depth. By default the bottom of the hole will be set to and fol-
low the contour of the existing face to reduce the amount of sink on the part.
Creating a Rest
A rest is like an extrude command that understands a wall thickness. It is meant to
build a flat spot and can construct the internal and external faces at the same time.
1. Verify that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then open
c09-06.ipt from the Parts\Chapter9 folder.
2. Find and start the Rest tool in the Plastic Part panel of the 3D Model tab.
3. After the preview appears, click the direction button option in the dia-
log box on the left to put the hollow of the rest to the inside of the part.
4. Set the thickness to 2, and then click the More tab.
5. Set the values for Landing Taper and Clearance Taper to 2, as shown
in Figure 9.9, and click OK to create the rest.
