6. Scroll down the list, select the SKF NJ bearing, and click OK to cre-
ate the geometry. You will have to hit OK in the File Naming dialog
box as well.
7. Click to place the bearing off to the side of the cover.
Using the Calculation tab, you can also test the bearing by checking how the
bearing meets life span, loading, and speed ratings to be sure that it will hold up.
Using the Adaptivity Feature Within the Assembly
Adaptivity is not a function of a design accelerator, but it is an advanced capabil-
ity unique to Inventor. It allows part features to be modified by assembly con-
straints in certain conditions.
It is possible to identify an adaptive item in the Browser by locating the red-
and-blue icon next to the part or feature or sketch.

Objective
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open the c08-04.iam file from the Assemblies\Chapter​8 folder.
2. Switch the Ribbon to the Inspect tab, and start the Distance option
of the Measure tool from the Measure panel, press the M key, or select
Measure Distance from the marking menu.
3. Click the inside edge of the large hole in the tan part.
The hole in the part will measure 38 mm. The bearing in the
assembly has an outer diameter of 35 mm. Adaptivity will allow the
diameter of the hole to be changed to fit the bearing.
4. Start the Constrain tool in the Position panel of the Assemble tab.
5. Hover over the exterior cylindrical face of the bearing.
