CHAPTER 7
Advanced Part
Modeling Features
Now that you've developed the basic skills for part modeling and sketching,
it is a good time to let you know that you've already learned some of the most
challenging concepts in Inventor. Advanced features in Autodesk ® Inventor ®
2013 are as easy to define and often easier to construct than the basic features.
In this chapter, you will create or complete a handful of parts that include
complex contours or large numbers of features. As you move beyond basic,
prismatic parts, you need to work with more developed sketched and placed
features. You will find that the basics learned with primitives, extrusions,
and revolved features will apply directly to the dialog boxes and workflows of
these more advanced tools.
In addition, by completing this chapter and Chapter 3, “Learning the
Essentials of Part Modeling,” you will have used the majority of solid model-
ing tools available in Inventor.

Projecting Sketches and Lofting
For your first challenge, you will construct a spoke for a hand wheel that will
change shape as it passes along a path. To do this, you will use a loft feature,
but first you need to develop some of the elements required to form the feature.
Certification
Objective
Projecting a 3D Sketch
You can use a 3D sketch to create complex geometry for sketched features.
It can be created with a stand-alone tool or as an option to a 2D sketch that
defines part of it.
