2. Start the Slice tool from the Modify panel on the Place Views tab.
3. Click the isometric view as the view to be modified, and select the
check box in the dialog box for Slice The Whole Part.
Once the target view is selected, you need to select a sketch that
will be used to cut the view.
4. Select the vertical lines in the side view of the part, and click OK.
Figure 6.11 shows the result.
FIGURE 6.11 A slice view can
show how the shape of a component is
structured.
This updates the isometric view to show the portions of the part where the
lines pass through it.
Custom View
The ViewCube in parts and assemblies aligns with the standard view options
for placing drawing views. At times, these views just can't properly describe the
geometry. For these times, you can create a custom view.
1. Verify that the 2013 Essentials project file is active. If you created a
new template in Chapter 5, “Customizing Styles and Templates,” use
Essentials1.idw to start a new drawing. If not, start a new drawing
using the ANSI(mm).idw template available on the Metric tab.
2. Start the Base View tool (in the Create panel of the Place Views tab or
on the marking menu).
3. When the Drawing View dialog box opens, use the Browse tool to
locate the files. Find c06-01.ipn in the Assemblies\Chapter6 folder.
The .ipn extension is for Inventor presentation files. A presenta-
tion file is used to create an exploded view of an assembly.
