The Break Out View
The sketch you created will be used as a boundary to remove part of the compo-
nents of the assembly so you can see the interior.
1. Verify that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then open
c06-03.idw from the Drawings\Chapter6 folder.
2. Click the Break Out tool in the Modify panel of the Place Views tab.
3. Select the left view, and when the Break Out dialog box opens, you
will notice it has already selected the spline since it was the only
closed profile.
You will then need to select the depth to which you cut through
the parts.
4. Hover over a curved edge. When the green dot appears, click it, as
shown in Figure 6.4.
There are several
options for selecting
what components
will be cut using the
Break Out tool.
FIGURE 6.4 After you select the profile, you determine the
depth of the cut.
5. Click OK to generate the view.
This generates and cuts any and all parts down to the selected point, but the tra-
ditional line view drawing still makes it difficult to distinguish the components.
