CHAPTER 6
Creating Advanced
Drawings and
Detailing
In Chapter 2, “Creating 2D Drawings from 3D Data,” you learned how to
create the basic drawing views and what some might consider advanced
drawing views of a part file. Placing views of assemblies is not any different
from an individual part file. In this chapter, I will expand on those lessons,
and you will begin to work with very advanced drawing creation and editing
tools. You will also explore additional dimensioning and annotation tools.

Creating Advanced Drawing Views
The part modeling process normally combines the uses of sketched and
placed features. In Chapter 2, you created a section view that was based on a
sketch. Projected views are placed by projecting from a parent view. Advanced
drawing views often use sketches for their definition and can even use more
than one sketch. Even a projected view utilizes advanced technologies to help
make decisions on your behalf.
Projecting Views from a Section View
You can place as many base views in a drawing as you want, but if you already
have a section view with the proper orientation, you can use it as a parent view.
Certification
Objective
1. Verify that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then open
the c06-01.idw file from the Drawings\Chapter6 folder.
2. Right-click the section view, select Projected View from the mark-
ing menu, and drag the new view above and to the right of it.
An isometric view of the geometry that is visible in the section
view is created.
