Default Post Category and Default Link Category —New posts and new links are automatically
assigned a category when you create them. This only matters if you are remiss in categorizing
all your posts and links yourself. When you create your categories, come back to this link and
change the settings so the default is either the most-used category or a nicely renamed
“catchall” category. (“Uncategorized” and “blogroll,” two of the default wordings, are such ugly
names, don't you think?)
Reading Settings
Usability is a funny thing. It's easy to ignore what life is like for customers or users—in this case,
your blog visitors. The trouble is that, if you ignore them in setting up your blog, they might return
the favor and ignore you when it comes to visiting.
Reading Settings, shown in Figure 2.5, get little attention, but they might affect your blog visitors'
experiences of your blog as much as, say, the theme, which we all agonize over. Think carefully
about these settings up front, and don't be afraid to return to them later and experiment to find out
what works.
Figure 2.5
Reading is the main activity of your
site visitors and RSS subscribers,
so make it easy for them.
