Using Google to Access WordPress
Documentation
Google is a great search engine, but it (and other search engines) can work against you by being so
comprehensive. They reach out very broadly—to conversations that might be on a subtly or com-
pletely different topic to what you're interested in—and back in time, for instance, to comments
about older versions of WordPress.
Here are a few WordPress tricks that might help you get better results on your search:
•
Use the word WordPress in your search
—No matter how WordPress-specific a word might
seem to you—theme, plug-in, and so on—it almost certainly has many other meanings as well.
Include the word
WordPress
in your search to narrow the results.
•
Use site:wordpress.org
—Along with your Google search, you can include the phrase
site:wordpress.org
. This limits your search to information on the WordPress.org site. This
cuts out a lot of unrelated information.
•
Use site:codex.wordpress.org
—To search only within the Codex, include the phrase
site:codex.wordpress.org
. This limits your search to the Codex only, as shown in Figure B.3.
Figure B.3
You can get
straight into
the Codex
from Google.
