Shopping for Themes
As we explained in Chapter 3, “Creating Your Blog's Look,” people's
first impression of your blog is generated largely by the theme you
select. Your theme is what your blog looks like.
In this chapter, we help you navigate the considerably expanded uni-
verse of themes available for self-hosted WordPress.org blogs. You'll
learn how to find the right theme for your site. We help you evaluate
whether you want to pay for a premium theme, or hire a developer to
translate your exact vision. Finally, we show you how to install and
activate themes on your site.
We gave you a lot of advice on selecting the right theme in Chapter 3.
When you are working with a WordPress.org (self-hosted) site, your
choices expand dramatically over WordPress.com, plus there's a new
dimension to your selection. You are no longer restricted to the 70-plus
themes available there. The universe of themes is effectively infinite,
depending on your skills, available time, and the size of your bank
