5. To Edit the tag, click Edit underneath its name. The Edit Tag
page appears. Change the Tag Name and/or Description. Click
the Update Tag button to make the change. You've completed
these steps.
tip
If tag descriptions don't appear
in your theme, the only place
you'll see them is on the Tags
page described here. In that
case, it's probably only worth
entering and managing the
descriptions if there are multiple
authors on your blog and you
want to support consistency in
the way they use tags.
The tag is modified. Check your theme to see if the Tag
Description shows before making the effort to modify descrip-
tions.
6. To change just the name of the tag, click Quick Edit under its
name. The name appears in an editable box. Make any changes
and click the Update Tag button to put the change into effect.
You've completed these steps.
7. To delete one tag at a time, click Delete under its name. A dia-
log box to confirm the deletion appears. Click OK to delete or Cancel to change your mind.
8. To delete several tags at a time, click the check box next to each of the names of the tags to be
deleted to select them. Then click the Bulk Actions menu at the top or bottom of the list of cate-
gories. Choose Delete and then click the Apply button; a dialog box appears to confirm. Click OK
to delete or Cancel to change your mind.
If a tag is getting a lot of use, and if it would fit in your categoriza-
tion scheme, it might make sense to change the tag into a cate-
gory. To make this change, use the Convert Tags to Categories
page, as shown in Figure 5.9. Unfortunately, you can't reach this
screen directly through the Tags page; you have to go in through
the Convert Categories to Tags page, as described previously and
shown in Figure 5.6. Alternatively, enter the URL directly (inserting
your blog's username in place of blogname ):
http:// blogname .wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=
wp-cat2tag&step=3
The process is similar to the process for converting categories to tags, as described previously. Tags
become independent top-level categories, and the new category is added to relevant posts along-
side any other categories associated with each post.
tip
To select all the tags at once
(that is, to put a check in all the
check boxes), click the check
box next to the Name column
header at the top or bottom of
the list. To clear the selection,
click the check box next to the
Name column header again.
Changing Tags Associated with Posts
You can always change the tags assigned to a post as part of editing the post, as described in the
previous chapter. Sometimes it's helpful to begin with a list of all the posts associated with a tag.
Follow these steps to work on posts by tag:
1. From the Posts menu in the Administration area, choose Tags. The Tags page appears, as
shown previously, in Figure 5.8.
