TAKING POSTS FURTHER
Doing More with Posts
Many WordPress blogs get about as far as we've described in previous
chapters: A user signs on, sets up their blog, and starts posting. Some
visitors come and occasional comments are made, but the blog doesn't
develop much further.
Such blogs continue for as long as the blog owner maintains interest,
which often isn't all that long. This low level of engagement is true for
many WordPress.com blogs and even sometimes for WordPress.org
users, despite the fact that they invest more effort in setting up their
blog.
This topic exists for those who want to go further, to understand more
about how a blog works, and to do more with their blog. This chapter is
the beginning of taking your blog to the next level.
In this chapter, we describe categorizing and tagging your blog posts
and updating links and your blogroll, a list of links to your blog.
Nothing we describe here is strictly necessary to the core blogging
activities of writing posts, posting them, and having people who already
know about the blog visit and read your posts. What all these efforts are
good for is making your blog easier to find for casual visitors and web
search users, more interesting, and more useful. This should increase
visits, get more comments, and help you write better posts. Which
