1.1 Installing Sun's Java JDK
The Android SDK requires JDK version 6 or later. If you already have one of those installed,
skip to the next step.
Mac OS X usually comes with the JDK version 6 or higher version built in, and many Linux
distributions include a JDK. If the JDK is not installed on your machine, check out the down-
load link here .
You'll see a list of the latest Java products for downloads (figure 1.1). Choose the right one
for your operating system.

Windows (XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8)
For XP or Vista 32, select the distribution "Windows X86”; For Vista 64, or Windows7/8,
select the distribution “Windows X64”.
Read, review, and accept Sun's license for the JDK. Once the download is complete, a dia-
logue screen will ask you whether you want to run the downloaded executable. When you
