CINCO DÍAS CON NUESTRA TIERRA
Held in the second week of March, the Cinco Días con Nuestro Tierra ( ht-
tp://agricultura.uprm.edu ) is an agricultural-industrial fair, featuring local produce and
demonstrations from RUM's agricultural department in Mayagüez. It includes workshops,
demonstrations and home gardening exhibits.
TURTLE SEASON
The beaches of Culebra see a lot of action from nesting sea turtles at this time of year.
Volunteers can help guard nests from egg poachers - both animal and human - or set up
ecosensitive tours to the island to watch turtles.
FERIA DULCE SUEÑO
The streets of Guayama fill with the elegant gait of Paso Fino horses during the two-day
Feria Dulce Sueño (Fair of Sweet Dreams). Competitions take place in a dignified rodeo
atmosphere and the city goes horse crazy. It's held in early March.
April
Trade winds bring a bit more precipitation to the north coast, though rainfall is
mostly in the afternoon. As temperatures continue to increase, small festivals enliven
mountain towns.
PUERTO RICO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
The Puerto Rico International Film Festival ( www.priff.org ) is the biggest annual event
for the island's burgeoning film industry. The festival's recent move to new digs in the W
Retreat & Spa on Vieques underscores its high-class ambition.
SAINT'S DAY
Cities across Puerto Rico celebrate the birthday of patriot and revolutionary independence
icon José de Diego ( born April 16, 1867 ) . It's a national holiday, celebrated with particu-
lar enthusiasm in Aguadilla, where he was born.
