In-Depth Information
(cnr Calles Muñoz Rivera & Padre Berrios; admission $1; 8:30am-4:20pm Wed-
Sun) This tin-roofed house honors the so-called grandfather of Puerto Rico's autonomy
movement and the 20th-century architect of the Puerto Rican commonwealth. This is where
Luis Muñoz Rivera was born in 1859, and it contains a collection of furniture, letters, pho-
tographs and other memorabilia, including his death mask. The coolest thing on display is
Muñoz' 1912 Pierce-Arrow, which carried him to his mausoleum.
Mausoleo Familia Muñoz Rivera MUSEUM
(7 Calle Padre Berrios; 8:30am-4:20pm Tue-Sun) Just south of the plaza is a family
tomb that holds the remains of Muñoz Rivera, his famous son Luis Muñoz Marín and their
wives. Photographic displays at the tomb evoke the funeral of Luis Muñoz Marín, but the
brightly colored frescos on the walls are an aptly powerful testament to the man himself.
Toro Verde Nature Adventure Park ADVENTURE PARK
( 867-7020; www.toroverdepr.com ; Carretera 155, Barrio Gato, sector Los Santi-
ago, Orocovis; 8am-6pm Thu-Sun) This new adventure park was completed in 2010,
and offers a suite of adventures among a stunning patch of forest near the little town of Oro-
covis, north of Barranquita. The affordable, adrenaline-soaked zip-line tours and single-
track mountain-bike circuit make it the best facility of its kind on the island. There are
several zip-line tours to choose from, but even the standard canopy zip-line tour ($75,
three hours) is a rush - sending you sailing over a valley connected to eight lines. The
longest line on the standard tour is over 2500ft long and 600ft in the air. The other pack-
ages on offer are a good option for those who want something a bit different, including the
two-minute ride on 'La Bestia' ($50), which harnesses you superman-style into one of the
longest zip lines in the world, and a hanging bridges tour ($85, two hours), in which you
rush across wildly swinging bridges (while strapped to a safety cable). The 8-mile-long
mountain-bike circuit ($25) is far and away the best maintained trail ride on the mountain,
designed by pro mountain biker Marla Streb. It's single-track trails are challenging, with
lots of tight lines and some good drops. Note that for the zip lines and bridge tour there are
weight and age requirements (the youngest available for kids over 12).
