Getting Around
It may be possible to fly to Ponce directly, but navigating the area in depth largely requires
a car as público transport can be time-consuming and maddeningly erratic.
To/From the Airport
Taxis tend to gravitate to the Plaza Las Delicias. Expect to pay $15 for the 4-mile taxi trip
to or from the airport.
Car
Rental car agencies are mostly located at the airport, including the following:
Avis( 787-842-6184)
Dollar( 787-843-6940)
Hertz( 787-842-7377)
Taxi
Hailing a cab at the Plaza Las Delicias is much quicker than calling for one. It's $1 to drop
the flag and about $1.50 per mile, but meters are used infrequently, so ask about the price
before you get an unpleasant surprise. Coop Taxi del Sur ( 787-848-8248) and Ponce
Taxi( 787-642-3370) are reliable.
Trolley
The city tourist office operates a trolley and a 'chu chu' train for visitors ($2), which are
informative and entertaining. Supposedly both follow the same route, but the two-hour trol-
ley ride makes stops, allowing passengers to get out and snap photos, while the train makes
no stops, completing its circuit in about an hour. Of the two options, the trolley is recom-
mended. There are supposed to be regular trips between 8am and 7:30pm, but drivers seem
to change the schedule and routes on a whim. They all leave and return to the stop in front
of the Casa Armstrong-Poventud, on the west side of Plaza Las Delicias. Inquire at the
tourist desk in Parque de Bombas before planning your day around a ride.
