These handy one-
bedroom apartments (three-night minimum stay) have to be one of the best bargains in Old
San Juan. Located on neighborly Sol with all of the restaurant and museum action a hop,
skip and jump away, the traditional but comfortable rooms have a double bed, futon, kit-
chenette, bathroom, living room, TV and - almost unheard of in Old San Juan - a parking
space out front. Priceless!

The paint
was barely dry when we visited this excellent new family-run budget option, and all eight
rooms were already snapped up. Spacious and super-clean (one-use shower mats in the six
shared bathrooms), the full- and twin-bedded rooms have high ceilings, fridges and clas-

Well located in Old San Juan - though not for the fussy - these basic budget rooms
are a good place to meet other travelers. The tiny rooms have either air-con and no nat-
ural light or a fan with a somewhat loud streetside balcony. Perks include a small guest

Recently reopened after a decade, La Concha will wow you. Spacious and serene
white rooms pop with flashes of color, and blue-lit showers exude an otherworldly under-
water glow. Add in its three pools (one adults-only), gorgeous indoor and outdoor seating
areas, hallways in crayon colors, a 24-hour casino, a sushi bar and the drop-dead gorgeous
Perla
restaurant, and you won't feel the need to venture far. In addition, the hotel lobby is
the current place to see and be seen in San Juan, with a sophisticated party scene on week-
ends. So bring a dazzling outfit or request a room tucked away from the action.
