busy times of year. But if you're traveling as a couple, here's a
way to save some money: Instead of biting the bullet and book-
ing one of the large bedrooms, consider taking two roomettes
instead. (Try to get them across the corridor from each other.)
Yes, you'll give up a lavatory in your room—but neither of you
will have to climb up into one of those small upper berths, you'll
have a view out of both sides of the train, and chances are the
cost of two roomettes will be less than the cost of one bedroom,
often a lot less.
Do You Need Extra Assistance?
If you or someone traveling with you should require any kind of
special assistance or service—a wheelchair, for instance—call
Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL at least 72 hours before you leave
(sooner than that if possible). And plan to arrive at the station early.
